Capital District Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network (RBERN)

The Capital District RBERN (at Questar III) is funded by a contract from the New York State Education Department to provide technical assistance at no charge to school districts with English Language Learners in the counties of Albany, Clinton, Columbia, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Lewis, Montgomery, Otsego, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, St. Lawrence, Warren and Washington.

WMHT PBS

WMHT added 10 hours of educational programming on WMHT World. The new programming, along with their existing educational resources, provides a wide range of learning materials while school is not in session. Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement is offering K-12 resources including career speaker’s videos for teachers to use as they continue teaching their students during school closures. View Junior Achievement’s resources and videos.

RemoteED SUNY Albany

SUNY Albany’s School of Education has developed K-12 resources for teachers to use as they continue teaching their students during school closures. Weekly connections are also available to teachers for collaboration. View SUNY Albany’s RemoteED resources.

Siemens

Siemens is offering a variety of STEM-focused activities for K-12 students. View Siemens’ STEM activities.

Albany Can Code

Albany Can Code is offering “Pop-up Classes” through Facebook LIVE. View their schedule of upcoming classes.

Greater Capital Region Teacher Center

The Greater Capital Region Teacher Center has an Emergency Distance Learning PLC. The platform will be completely online via the free learning management system, Schoology. Participants will share best practices about how to reach students electronically during these unprecedented times, including topics such as screencasting your OWN video for students or families, hosting live classes or meetings, and assessing students virtually. You must register through Frontline for your CTLE hours to be documented.

  • NOVELNY:  Online databases freely available to ALL New Yorkers. Includes general encyclopedia resources, Opposing Viewpoints and New York Newspapers. Curriculum resources for social studies, science, ELA, biographies, technology, and current events for grades 3 and up. Most are accessible through location information.
  • Newsbank:  Searchable database of world and US newspapers, historical and current. Excellent resource for primary sources. Notably, includes the current day’s Albany Times Union newspaper. Most tools are for middle and high schools, but Research Rocket is for elementary students. Includes lesson plans, pathfinders and teaching tools. Purchased for Capital Region BOCES schools by the School Library System.
  • Rosen ebooks:  Rosen Digital publishes award-winning, K-12 nonfiction eBooks and interactive eBooks. All are tablet, smartphone and Chromebook-compatible and are aligned to state and national standards. Many of these titles are accompanied by lesson plans, graphic organizers and interactive elements. Purchased for Capital Region BOCES schools by the School Library System.
  • Sora/Overdrive:  A vast collection of ebooks purchased specifically for students in the Capital Region by a librarian with expertise in selecting high-quality, popular and diverse titles. Books are available for all reading levels in ebook, audiobook and read-along formats. Titles can be read on any device. Purchased for Capital Region BOCES schools by the School Library System.
